i've been thinkin' about all the things i never wanted to
just hashin' it out like a freak in my room, with no context or clue
and now i see everything from a different point of view
so i'm crashin' my head to the wall, cuz i don't at all want to continue

i've been crunchin' the numbers and wonderin' if it's true
that most of the people who pray to the steeple just don't want to argue
with a man in the sky, who sits on high and decides what's sin and virtue
and judges you for everything you do

i don't wanna be another freak who winds up all alone
but some of these things are upsetting and i can't seem to let go
off all of those grand illusions that i've held on to for so long
and one of these days i'll find my way back to where it all went wrong

i've been holdin' my breath, hopin' i can catch a clue
just waitin' out the clock 'til somebody knocks and tells me somethin' new
but nobody does, as it was, i was never too hopeful for them to
so i'll turn blue before the day is through

i don't wanna be another freak with no one for to phone
but some of these things are upsetting and i'm ready for to go
cuz all of those grand illusions that i held on to for so long
only add to the confusion and i just stew on where it all went wrong

i've been mullin' it over and over the whole day through
makin' myself sick, like a lunatic
ah, what the hell, what else is new?

i don't wanna be a movin' piece, another mindless drone
i just wanna know that where i go, i go there on my own
cuz of all these grand illusions that i held on to for so long
might be the key, my one true avenue to where it all went wrong
