about
This song was written about 6 years ago or so, back when I was living in Boulder, CO. Things were different then: masks weren't required, I was young and stupid, and several of my closest friends were psychologically damaged drug addicts... Actually, come to think of it, other than the pandemic, things really weren't that different.
This is going to be part of an all-acoustic album I'll be releasing shortly. Consider purchasing if you'd like to support my work!

lyrics
ten years ago, he was gropin' for the light
by the riverside beneath the bridge downtown
crazed and confused from all the junk he used
empty inside, like a bottle on the ground
and now he's on the fast track to success
wakes up each day and works to death
lookin' out the window of his twelfth floor office suite
to himself and no one else, he speaks
he says, i've come a long way, but a long way ain't good enough
i've come a long way, but a long way ain't good enough
back in '92, she was wrestlin' with the booze
delirious, seein' faces in the night
wakin' up cold and quickly growin' old
furious, but too damn weak to fight
and now she's payin' bills ahead of time
raisin' kids and stayin' off the wine
lookin' at the sky and whispering softly
to herself and no one else, she speaks
she says, i've come a long way, but a long way ain't good enough
i've come a long way, but a long way ain't good enough
to fill a deep hole ain't so easy
for still the long road stretches on
there are so few minutes between every sunset
and when the sun comes up again, we'll say
i've come a long way, but a long way ain't good enough
i've come a long way, but a long way ain't good enough
